Stitching is My Chocolate

Slow Stitching Samples

I’ve learned that you can’t serve two masters over and over again in my life. If you’ve read some of my other blogs under “textiles” you’ll see that I come from a long line of amazing women who stitched. When I first started slow stitching during the pandemic, it was to soothe my soul. The world was crazy, painting was work to me and I needed something to do to create and relax at the same time when we were all staying home way too much. But then there was sudden interest and I found myself dividing my time between trying to sell my textile art as well as my paintings. I soon realized, that I couldn’t do both and still put in the studio time I needed to paint. Painting is hard. The more I learn, the steeper the climb is. But it is a passion for me. So, I no longer sell my slow stitching. I give it to people I love. It has returned to being my chocolate.
Some of you have asked to see more of my work, so I’ll put some examples on here for you. I’ve stitched a lot of birds, female authors homes (they take the longest), cottages and collage. I rescue old quilts and lace, and give them new life. I support textile artists who dye their own linen and trims, and small businesses who sell lovely needles and threads.
I mat my work in archival mats ordered to size and display them under glass in shadow box frames so the textiles don’t get squished! If you want to see more, they’re scattered through my Instagram (if you go to my profile @alicehauserfineart).
Happy Stitching!!!
Female authors homes in order; Jane Austen’s Chawton Cottage, Emily Dickinson, Hill Top Farm of Beatrix Potter, Monk House Virginia Wood.
